Notebook: Carlton Bragg’s first semester at KU eye-opening

San Diego ? Kansas University freshman forward Carlton Bragg, who had just two points and one rebound Tuesday night in the Jayhawks’ 70-57 victory at San Diego State, said recently his first semester in college was certainly eye-opening.

“You’ve got to learn how to live by yourself. Mom is not there to wake you up. You’ve got to keep your room clean, washing clothes,” Bragg said. “It’s different not having (his mom) around to talk to me.”

KU coach Bill Self has been pleased with Bragg’s all-out effort. He sprints to the scorer’s table and off the court when checking in and out of games.

“He has the best personality,” Self said. “He checks out of the game and in game running faster than any player I ever coached in my life. Seriously, I kind of get scared when he runs toward me. If he doesn’t stop, there could be a bad collision,” Self deadpanned.

Fisher’s house: San Diego State’s basketball court was named “Steve Fisher Court” for the veteran coach this year.

“I’m going to make sure to ask him, ‘Is that because you are a legend or getting up in years?”’ KU caoch Self said on his pre-game interview with the Jayhawk Radio Network.

Faces in the crowd: Former KU football defensive back Darrell Stuckey of the San Diego Chargers was to attend the game as well as KU signee Mitch Lightfoot, a 6-8 forward from Gilbert (Arizona) Christian High, who is ranked No. 117 in the recruiting Class of 2016 by Rivals.com.
